I’ve just heard this sad news from her artist Roswitha Guillemin : Anne Vignial, Parisian urban art gallery director, passed away this weekend.
I took these pictures in her gallery just a few weeks ago [on June 14th], at the opening of the group exibit of several parisian street artists. You can find more pictures from the opening reception on my Flickr pages.
Anne Vignale was the first art gallery owner in Paris who took the risk of opening a gallery entirely dedicated to urban art. She proudly told me, few weeks ago : “I was the first, four years ago in Paris and now, you see, there are a lot of gallery owners interested in street art.”
As she exhibited almost all Parisian street artists [ Jef Aerosol, Mesnager, Speedy Graffito, Mosko. Nemo, Miss.Tic, Pixal Parazit, YZ - Open your Eyes, Frank K Duval [FKDL], Artiste-Ouvrier, Dewad-Gumo, WCA, Amour, NoArt, Guillaume Piéchaud, Epsylon Point, Mr.Lolo, Ludwig, Nice-Art…] Anne Vignial has been rightly labeled as an ”urban art militant”.
The memorial ceremony will be held tomorrow, Friday, August 8th 2008 at 3:30 pm in the church Saint-Denis of Saint Sacrement, 68 rue de Turenne 75003 Paris, not so far away from her gallery.
